I hear it is almost an entire new cast – always nice to see fresh faces on the stage! Not that we don’t have some talented individuals out there – look at the Bricks to see some great names – but you never know who might surprise you and I love a show where it isn’t "Jack or Susie" up on stage yet again.
As well – interesting that you have it held out of a community church…it is interesting to see how many theatre peeps will show up since it isn’t in a regular venue- if they support theatre as they say – venue shouldn’t matter.
As well, it will be intersting to see many from the communty who are ‘curious’ and find the community setting an easy first step to check out some of London’s wonderful theatre. I think that for theatre to really grow with both circles – this is a good move, one that is nice to see actually.
Break a leg NMTC!
I believe this is the acting company for all of Noisy Mime’s shows this year, or at least a subset of it. (They held auditions for the full season in August.)
I’m very curious to see the turnout for a show being held away from downtown and the university; the church is south of Westmount Mall. For those taking public transit, it looks like the #15 will get you closest; it’s about a 2½ km walk to the church from the stop at Dalhousie, if I’m reading the LTC map correctly.
Noisy Mime is holding auditions for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ Jan 11 -12 and ’13’ in April.
I wouldn’t suggest anyone walking on Boswick Rd. to get to the church.
Seeing as we managed to get around during the city during a transit strike, I’m sure if people really wanted to come out to see the show, they will.
Good point about the auditions for those shows; I should have remembered that, since I posted them myself!
I was invited by a friend of mine to attend opening night, and I’m glad I did. The performance was well done, quite funny, and certainly kept us entertained. Excellent job with the set as well.
Bravo!
Saw the show Friday night – although it was a bit confusing getting to the church (once we made it wondered how we ever thought so) but anyways the show surprised me and was quite entertaining! Lots of laughs with a great ending to the show. I would recommend anyone to venture out and check it out next weekend! Good job NMTC!
Just an FYI – there is a show Sunday night @7:30pm that has been left out on the calendar.
Thanks @Twest, it’s been added. For what it’s worth, that show isn’t listed on the Brickenden site either.
Thanks! Sent an email to see if that one can be updated as well – thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.
Anyways, anyone planning on coming out tomorrow for either show 2pm or 7:30pm: pls come early to get a seat. We had to pull out extra chairs to seat people tonight.
Thanks for the updates, @Twest: almost everything about this event was discovered second- or third-hand.
Glad you’ve had good turnouts; fortunately you’ve got plenty of space to put chairs in the auditorium.
Plenty of space is better than none at all!
For attempting a venue "out of the norm" for a theatre show…I’d say it opened theatre up to people who are not part of the ‘theatre crowd" meaning next time; we’ve just expanded our audience to a new crowd who will return, and return with friends.
We see the crowds slowly die down because the same theatre crowd can’t possibly make it out to all their "friends shows". I’ve been there. It is hard to get someone to come out with me who is not already involved in theatre and their own rehearsals. I wish I could make it out to more! For someone who isn’t involved or haven’t been to a show before, the easy excuse is theatre’s "not really their thing"…or so they think.
Last night we saw the power word of mouth of from people who took that first step to come out and then spoke of the show to others, sharing their enjoyment. Few returned with friends and several are already asking about future shows.
I agree PR could of been better – and location was difficult to get to but if we had all supported eachother as a theatre community – we could of shown that we have a strong untied theatre front in London. Help eachother and support eachother as actors. Not tear eachother down – subtle or obvious. Judge by popularity, favorites or pick apart what might not seem ‘to par’. No one wants to get in the middle of anything, and won’t, even if it means going to support a friend in a show or see something that interests them as an individual.
Seeing the lineup for theatre in 2010 – it could be an awesome year for everyone involved! We could do some really big things if we all got together and supported eachother.
No one should be shutting down something they love or be frustrated trying to get that one chance to try something new, to do something as passionate as theatre or the arts…we put ourselves up on that stage in front of people to share something we believe in…in theatre. How could anything be wrong in that?
My deepest thanks to everyone who made the efforts to come out and support the show so far…it is your support that carries me thru the show!
I have to go – I have a show to put on!
For what it’s worth, I attended The Curious Savage early in the run, and offered to bring others to see it once I realized that it could be a difficult venue to get to. I’m all for bringing new people to theatre, whether it’s to a reading held in the back room of a bar or a touring production at the JLC. I also think it’s valuable to spread the word about theatre, particularly locally, as many excellent productions get audiences a fraction of the size they should.
I’ve never seen anyone try to “shut down” someone else’s production or company. If that’s been your experience I’m sorry to hear it, but if you’re perceiving that in comments in this thread then you can’t be more wrong. Michael and Leigh have a lot of energy and big plans for Noisy Mime (which I highlighted 18 months ago) and I hope they can pull them off; I buy a ticket to every production, even though they’ve repeatedly offered comps. (That’s not unique to Noisy Mime; other than using the tickets I received in exchange for billeting out-of-town performers during two festivals, I bought a ticket for every one of the 120+ shows I saw last year.) Regarding NMTC’s 2010 season, their Fringe production of An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein is already on the calendar (as are the seven other productions that I’ve been able to find information about); Little Shop of Horrors and Dracula aren’t only because NMTC hasn’t announced performance dates yet.
“We could do some really big things if we all got together and supported eachother.” Truer words….
OH! Sorry – I never meant that anyone was trying to shut anyone else down… I mean that just it is hard to get people out to shows and with the way I see good theatres struggle – this is hard to see.
This is where we all need to pull together – regardless of whose company or show (and there is not always the best of love between eachother): I love what everyone is planning for 2010 and really, truely hope that any of these theatres – who have so much heart and determination – can get people out to their shows. Because, sadly, we need people to come out – to be able to succeed and continue providing London with wonderful theatre.
BTW – Thanks for making the effort to come out and see the show! It is greatly appreciated 🙂
As well – just so you know, I totally support Leigh and Michael Paylor!
