Triple-threat actor, writer and director Maja Ardal returns to London as part of the upcoming Theatre Ontario Festival as the guest of the Playwright-in-Person workshop administered by Playwrights Guild of Canada and sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts.
Ardal is a playwright, performer, theatre instructor, the former artistic director of Young People’s Theatre (Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People) and a core member of Contrary Company. She wrote Midnight Sun, produced by Tarragon Theatre and the National Arts Centre. Over her thirty-seven-year career she has directed at The Shaw Festival, London’s Grand Theatre and Alberta Theatre Projects among others. For her illustrious career, Ms Ardal was the recipient of the 2002 George Luscombe Award for Mentorship in the Theatre. Ardal is playwright in residence at Nightwood Theatre, and is writing The Cure for Everything, a sequel to You Fancy Yourself.
Ardal will read from both You Fancy Yourself and its sequel The Cure for Everything, which is being produced by Theatre Passe Muraille next season. During the session she will talk about how “when we draw creatively from our
own lives we have to feel free to use the imagination and to fictionalize the world and people we draw from.”
Admission: free. Seating is limited.
