Script analysis workshop: ‘Art’

Interpreting a play means making choices. During this set of three workshops, we will read an entire play, and then discuss in detail the choices that the actors and directors have to make. In studying one script in detail, we will also be considering the more general questions of how to read a script, what to look for and how to make the best choices that lay the foundations for the best productions.

The script that we will be discussing is ‘Art’, by Yasmina Reza, which has won major awards in France, England and the US. We will have two sessions (three hours each) to discuss the play, and then we will go to see a performance of the play at The Arts Project (produced by Fountainhead Theatreworks), and then we’ll have a final session to compare notes in light of the live performance.

It’s a great opportunity to make choices based on a script and then compare them with those made in a live performance. The workshops are aimed at actors and directors, but playwrights and general theatre enthusiasts are welcome.

Cost: $50 (three sessions; scripts are provided); contact trebluC ffeJ, 519-645-1130, for information.
