Intimate Apparel

In this play set in New York City in 1905, we meet Esther, an African American seamstress, who sews exquisite lingerie for clients ranging from wealthy white patrons to ladies of the night. As each year passes, she saves every penny in the hopes of one day opening a beauty salon for other African American women. Although fiercely determined, she still longs for a husband and a future. When she begins receiving beautiful letters from a mysterious Caribbean man, it seems life just might take a different course. Love and betrayal are woven into the fabric of this period drama about independence and the dauntless pursuit of a dream.
