Arcadia

Arcadia is a play about relationships, time, and our relationships with time.

Moving back and forth between the early 1800s and present-day English estate Sidley Park, Arcadia explores the way we relate to history and our interpretation of past events. The extremely witty and hilarious dialogue makes Arcadia a brilliant, riotous show, but in its quieter, darker, softer moments, Arcadia is deeply moving.

In 1809, as the English landscape begins shifting from sweeping, pastoral views to Gothic gardens, thirteen year-old Thomasina Coverly tackles romantic and intellectual matters with her tutor, Septimus Hodge. Present-day scenes throw two competing scholars against each other as they try to uncover the details of a scandal rumoured to have involved infamous English writer Lord Byron on the Coverly estate in 1809. As the modern-day Coverly descendants prepare for a Regency Era-themed party, and Thomasina’s scholarly work moves more and more ahead of her time, timelines blur and bittersweet revelations occur in both periods.
