I would like to start by saying the Ancient Greek comedy, Lysistrata was first performed in Athens in 411 BC, and still holds its place in today’s society discussing themes of gender and power. In order to keep the peace between Sparta and Athens, the women, lead by Lysistrata, devise a plan to with-hold sex from all the men in the land until peace can be made between the two cities – we have a war of the sexes!
Lysistrata is a comedy, and there are some very funny moments throughout the show. The cast – particularly Elle Hounse who plays the lead of Lysistrata, commands the stage and captivates the audience not only through laughter but also thought. Worth a watch!
