London and area writers are invited to submit scripts for the 2009 PlayWrights Cabaret, presented by The Grand Theatre. Selected scripts will be given staged readings at The Grand’s McManus Studio Theatre on January 30 and 31, 2009, and each playwright will receive an honorarium of $100.

The running time for each script must be no more than 10 minutes, and playwrights are being asked to write on the theme “Transformation.” The interpretation of the theme is left up to the individual writers.

Each piece will be performed by a maximum of four actors-two males and two females-and cross-gender casting may be used if the script requires more than two actors of the same sex. Lee Wilson, Artistic Associate at The Grand Theatre, will join Jeff Culbert, the Project Coordinator, in directing scripts.

In addition to contributing to the two nights of presentations, playwrights will be invited to attend a rehearsal of their work. A few writers will be offered a chance to work one-on-one with a dramaturge. Each writer will also receive a complimentary ticket to attend the Cabaret on the night their script is presented.

The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2008. Selected writers will be contacted by December 15, 2008.

Scripts can be submitted electronically to cryde@grandtheatre.com, or a hard copy can be delivered or mailed to:
