Ray Hogg, Director of the Grand Theatre’s Controlled Damage in London ON, will be holding auditions in Toronto on September 23/24.
Storyline:
Controlled Damage explores the life of Viola Desmond, and how her act of bravery in a New Glasgow, NS movie theatre started a ripple effect throughout society. The play shines a light on how her courage impacted different cultural groups in the province and the effect it’s had over the past 70 years.

*PLEASE NOTE: You may or may not be asked to read for all of the roles which you indicate interest in.
Headshots must be .jpg, .jpeg, or .pdf files, titled “YOUR NAME Headshot”, and be no larger than 2 MB. Headshots do not need to be from a professional photographer.
Resumes must be .pdf files titled “YOUR NAME Resume”
You may combine your headshot and resume into one PDF if preferred
In order to be considered for an audition, digital copies of your headshot and resume must be received electronically in advance.
Submission Deadline: September 12th by midnight
Only successful applicants will be contacted by end of day Monday September 20th
Audition Dates: September 23rd & 24th, 2021
Audition Location: Toronto, ON – exact location TBC
Audition Notes:
We will provide successful applicants with material from the play to prepare.
*PLEASE NOTE – Artists do not need to be off book for their audition appointment
Please prepare 16-32 bars of a song which best shows off your voice. Actors must provide their own sheet music for accompanist.
Priority will be given to Equity artists, and they will be seen first at all auditions.
Callback Dates: September 27th, 2021
COVID Protocols:
Masks will be required of all artists and physical distancing will be maintained throughout the audition. Any shared objects will be disinfected prior to the next artist.

Fiercely intelligent, savvy, and determined. This woman believes in advancement for herself, her family, and her community.
JACK DESMOND – 42, pious, very ‘hail fellow-well met’, dark-skinned Black man
Loving, business man, and pillar of his community. This man is determined not to rock the boat AND to advance his people’s cause.
