Set in Terre Haute, Indiana in late 1979, The Nerd centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved has life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. However, Rick’s awkward manner and inappropriate behavior throws the occasion into shambles. It turns out that Rick makes life unravel to those who meet him and he overstays his welcome with a vengeance.
Audition dates Sunday, June 24, 7-10 PM
Monday, June 25 7-10 PM
Location: The Annex 523 South Street ( between Maitland and William)
Requirements: Please be prepared to do cold reads (selected scenes from the script). The auditions will take place in a group format and no appointment is necessary.
WILLUM Cubbert (male, 30-50). A professional architect, likable and sincere, unexciting and set in his ways. Willum needs a little gumption.
TANSY McGinnis (female, 30-50). The woman about to choose between her boyfriend Willum and her career as a weather girl. Tansy is bubbly, wry, and definitely her own woman.
AXEL Hammond (male, 30-50). Dry, wise-cracking, irreverent, devil-may-care theater critic who has never done an anonymous favour for anyone.
Warnock WALDGRAVE (male, 50 and up). Powerful, stern, and successful businessman totally lacking in imagination. The last time Waldgrave smiled was 30 years ago, and then it was gas.
CLELIA Waldgrave (female, 40 and up). Patient but strained, harried but calm, the picture of a schoolteacher almost but not quite stressed to her breaking point.
THOR Waldgrave (male, 9-11). The son of Warnock and Clelia Waldgrave is a bratty who is a temperamental, loud, boisterous, irrepressible young monster.
RICK Steadman (30-50). Tactless, selfish, insensitive, aggravating, pointlessly dull, and the worst houseguest ever.
We are committed to providing opportunities for diverse performers and voices. Experienced artists and newcomers are encouraged to audition.
