Alice Through the Looking-Glass

Alice Through The Looking-Glass is the story of a young girl coming of age. While Alice is looking through the glass, she is subjected to the trials of her life as they get reflected back to her. Alice is eager to rush through the process of growing up, but as she soon discovers, growing up is more difficult than she assumed. Like most girls of her age, Alice struggles to discover her identity and place within the world of the looking glass. Alice’s journey through the looking glass world forces her to face the common issues of growing-up, such as peer-pressure, self-image, and bullying. It is through overcoming these obstacles that Alice is able to discover her own independence. We see her character mature from a young girl to a young woman as she develops a strength and appreciation for living in the moment rather than rushing to grow up. The question is, will Alice learn her lessons from the world of the looking glass or will she be trapped in the illusion of what it means to be a perfect woman?

Tickets: $15 adults, $10 students; available at the Grand Theatre box office, 519-672-8800.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

On a street in ancient Rome, three houses stand side by side.

In one, we have Hero and his slave, Pseudolus. Next door, Marcus Lycus and his courtesans. The third house belongs to Erronius, who is searching for his children, long ago stolen by pirates.

Pseudolus is desperate to be free from Hero, who loves the courtesan Philia, who is employed by Lycus and promised to Miles Gloriosis. When Pseudolus agrees to help Hero win Philia’s love in order to secure his own freedom, we find ourselves in a comedic tangle like no other! How does it all work out?

                    Urinetown the Musical

Urinetown is an earnest tale of love, greed, and revolution. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets have become unthinkable. At the mercy of a single dominating corporation who maintains a monopoly on the town’s public amenities, the destitute citizens must pay towering taxes and fines to carry out their most private and basic of needs. Out of the mass, a hero rises to lead his fellow citizens against the tyrannical regime. Drawing from West Side Story, Chicago, and Les Misérables among others, the show irreverently plays with the conventions of musical theatre, while poking fun at society and leaving the audience rolling with laughter.

Tickets: students $10, general $15. Available at the Grand Theatre box office, 519-672-8800
