The Manor Park Evening Post: Saint Patrick’s Day Special

The Manor Park Evening Post is back for a Saint Patrick’s Day Special! Stephen Holowitz will lead a cavalcade of fantastic musicians performing brilliant Celtic music. You can expect all your Manor Park favourites: Lucky Thinnorth, Margaret Parfait and Adam will have a new story from Manor Park. The show will be followed by a Souwesto Kitchen Party, with more music, fun, food and drink!

The Fig Tree

An imaginative contemporary fable, exploring the Canadian immigration experience and what Canada’s cultural mosaic can mean. 

A fig tree and a spider meet in a garage, strike up a conversation and begin a friendship. Through their friendship the spider learns of the fig tree’s long and eventful journey to Canada, which through Brazilian/Canadian playwright Patricia Nacamoto’s imagination becomes a brilliant and playful metaphor of the immigration experience.

Trivia Night: Brain Freeze Edition

Cy Warman, “Poet of the Rockies” has no trouble writing stirring verses about mountains and railways, but when it comes to writing about his beloved Marie, he just can’t articulate his affections. As the two dodge her disapproving father, they must find how to put their love into words.

Inspired by the true story of how in 1891 after a walk in London Ontario’s Victoria Park, Cy Warman wrote the words of Sweet Marie which became one of the most popular songs of the age, and was the namesake for the chocolate bar.

A hilarious swashbuckling melodrama! There are pirates on Long Point, but they don’t have a boat, instead from shore with a false beacon they are luring unsuspecting ships aground!

A band of local youth are luring unsuspecting ships onto the shore of Long Point, they loot the ships and are gone before the authorities arrive! But with the arrival of a bumbling American Navy admiral, things are about to get very tricky. Will a whip-smart local girl save the day or will the tip of Long Point be annexed by the USA?

A thrilling theatrical exploration of our city’s relationship and history with the bicycle.

In 1869 the bicycle made its first appearance in London Ontario causing a sensation, and this city’s formative relationship with the bicycle began. This vibrant theatrical collage explores the stories of the many Londoners who have used bicycles to shape their lives and our city.

Charlotte and Allan are ready to retire from farming and move into a condo in town. But they are not ready to sell their home. Renting out the farmhouse to a nice young couple from the city proves to be too good a solution. They start to notice suspicious clues. These new tenants have no furniture, one of them is named Razor and the hydro bill is ridiculously high.

Ken Cameron turns the real life experience of his parents selling their Southwestern Ontario farm into a very funny and unsettling commentary on the state of rural Canada.

Goodnight Spaceman

152 Happy Days

This community audio collage gives voice to the words of our late dear friend and ensemble member Greg Mate. During the last 152 days of Greg Mate’s life he posted on Facebook each day something that made his days a happy day. His happy day posts became well-loved by his friends and document these days with beauty and honesty. During these times Greg’s posts take on a special resonance and give insight in how to find joy amidst difficulty. Reading Greg’s posts are over fifty members of our community.

152 Happy Days takes place between March and August of 2014.

In Widows’ Scarlet, Dr. Troyer has been accusing the women of Long Point of witchcraft but he meets his match in a clever young widow who will make him the butt an elaborate practical joke. In Brothers in Arms a businessman and his wife wait for a ride to the train after a weekend in the woods, but an encounter with a woodsman challenges their perspectives on money, valour and the Canadian identity.

The play is inspired by the life of Doctor Troyer who lived near Long Point and fancied himself a witch hunter.

The play is a satire about a businessman and his wife who after a weekend in the bush are attempting to get back to the city in time for an important business transaction.

The Wind in the Willows: Life on the Antler River

Join Ratty, Mole, Badger and Mr. Toad for an adventure on the Antler River in Southwestern Ontario.

A pastoral cycle of a year of life on the river. Mole discovers there is life beyond his hole, when he makes friends with Ratty. Along with the wise Badger, they come to the aid of Mr. Toad when his latest obsession, Motorcars, gets him in more trouble than he could have ever imagined. This new version reimagines the classic story in a Southwestern Ontario setting, steeped in the natural history of the region.

When Canadians were called to fight in The Great War in 1914, droves of Londoners rose to the challenge. But some of the men who chose not to enlist were publicly shamed by young women who pinned white feathers on them to show their disapproval. Chicken Feather follows the relationship of a young man who gets pinned and the young woman who pins him.

The Cheese Poet: A Dairy-ing Melodrama

The Cheese Poet will be in the style of a melodrama that would have been performed in 1900s Ontario. The play follows James McIntyre who has spent his life in Ingersoll working as a carpenter and writing poetry about cheese. Now in his twilight years he embarks on a quest, with his loyal assistant Sam, to bring peace to world through construction the fabled ten ton cheese. Complication arises when he is pursued by his greedy nephew Edwin and a curmudgeonly university professor intent on dispelling his dreams of peace through cheese!

When harbor worker Hector is prevented from marrying Nella Price by her father, adventure leads to a leaky schooner upon Lake Erie, almost walking the plank and an encounter with Abigail Becker—the Angel of Long Point.
