The Music Man

An affectionate depiction of Smalltown, U.S.A., The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize—this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, the town’s skeptical music teacher.

The Music Man features possibly the most recognizable score in the musical theatre canon. 76 Trombones, Trouble (Right Here in River City), Goodnight My Someone and Shipoopi are only a sampling of the iconic music featured in this show. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, THE MUSIC MAN is one of musical theatre’s most beloved shows and is family entertainment at its best.

High School Backstage

Theatre has a long tradition in high schools and it is still thriving! Follow the Rogers TV cameras as they capture the intensity of the Beal theatre program’s production of Fame, the Lucas drama club’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the Saunders theatre program’s production of The Wedding Singer.

Each week, our cameras will reveal who will score the lead roles, how the sets and props are created, and how three individual productions come together on opening night. Meet the cast members, the drama teachers, the musicians and the performing artists who make words in a script come alive with music and emotion—from lighting, costume design and hair and make up to band rehearsals, dress rehearsals and opening night, the Rogers TV cameras will be there backstage to on stage front and centre.
