An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!

Matilda The Musical

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. The Aristocats Kids

Into the Woods

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Godspell

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Guys and Dolls

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for fourteen years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown, as a result. Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong.

Please be advised that we have made the difficult decision to postpone all performances of Guys & Dolls in an effort to reduce the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). We are rescheduling the show to May 14-17, 2020. The Box Office staff will be contacting patrons who have purchased tickets for the affected performances to rebook for a future performance without any fees. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. James and the Giant Peach Jr. is a brand-new take on this “masterpeach” of a tale about courage and self-discovery.

The Wizard of Oz

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and on route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. This classic tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations.

High School Musical 2 Jr.

On the last day of junior year, the East High gang can’t wait to get the summer started – they’re ready for summer jobs, money for college and to have fun. To that end, Troy gets them all jobs at Lava Springs Country Club – which happens to be owned by popular girl, Sharpay’s, father! While Sharpay schemes to steal Troy’s heart from Gabriella, her brother, Ryan, hopes to win the Star Dazzle Award. Everything comes to a head at the talent show, where the group has to remember their motto: “All for one, and one for all.”

Law and Order: C-Rhyme and Pun-ishment

In the nursery rhyme justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups — the detectives, who investigate the crime, and the magistrates, who prosecute the defenders. These are their rhymes. The Inspector and the Punnish Sir (Yes, he’s always scrambling for egg puns!) have been called in to investigate a crime scene where a Mister Humpty Dumpty has been found shattered and fowl play is suspected. Can they solve the c-rhyme? With hilarious musical numbers like Mountain of Love, Eggicide, and What the HONK Is Going On?, the yolk’s on you if you think this tongue-in-cheek musical is for young children. There are so many puns and plot twists in this Law and Order spoof, even the playwrights were surprised by the ending!

LYTE Gala 2019

The LYTE Gala provides the opportunity for the participants of our program to share and celebrate their theatrical talents with the community. The Gala is also a fundraiser to support anything and everything about the LYTE program, including the program expansion for the 2019 – 2020 season, more Main Stage productions, improved sets and costumes and procurement of production rights. See members of our Junior & Senior company as well as LYTE alumni take to the stage and perform songs from shows such as Sweeney Todd, Matilda, Chicago, My Fair Lady, & The Music Man to name a few! The Skokie Detective Charter School

At the Skokie Detective Charter School, all the students are detectives-in-training, learning firsthand how to follow the facts and find a logical solution. But these future super sleuths are about to encounter their biggest case yet when students start acting strangely, monsters are spotted in the hallway, and their teacher goes missing! These Tiny Private Eyes reconstruct the day’s events through four classic story-telling perspectives (film noir, young adult mystery, Edwardian romance, and Spaghetti Western) to solve the mystery in this clever and fast-paced comedy.

The Wolves

From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

The Enchanted Bookshop

During the day, A Likely Story may look like any other used bookstore. But at night, it’s a place where magic happens. That’s when the characters inside the books come alive. Six of those characters — Dorothy Gale, Robin Hood, Pollyanna, Sherlock Holmes, Heidi, and Tom Sawyer — long to help Margie, the scatterbrained owner, save her struggling store. But they’re not allowed to leave the building or be seen by human eyes. So when a pair of smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace hidden inside one of the books, the characters are torn. Should they warn Margie and risk disappearing forever? Or can they find a way to defeat the crooks without being seen? Featuring additional appearances by such beloved literary characters as the Queen of Hearts, Long John Silver, and Doctor Doolittle, this charming comedy celebrates the joy of reading in a fresh, fun-filled way.

Seussical The Musical

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Junie B. Jones The Musical Jr.

Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend Lucille has found new best friends – and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class Junie has trouble reading the blackboard – and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.

High School Musical Jr.

Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extra-curricular activities. The show’s infectious, danceable songs are sure to engage performers and audiences alike.

The Big Bad Musical

A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical! The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming. Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself. Was he born a criminal, or made one?

Sit back and enjoy the ride through some of Shakespeare’s most famous works. The ball of Romeo and Juliet, the fairy-filled forests of A Midsummer Nights Dream, the battlefields of King Henry V. A collection of large ensemble and small scenes and monologue work.

Alice in Wonderland Jr.

Come with us down “the rabbit hole” with Disney’s most beloved daydreamer, Alice, and meet a zany cast of characters in Wonderland like the full of mischief Cheshire Cat who advises her to visit the wonderfully eccentric Mad Hatter and March Hare. The tyrannical Queen of Hearts, who infamously orders (and orders again) “off with her head!” The energetic White Rabbit who always frets endlessly over being late, the happiest Caterpillar and many more delightful characters that come to light in this wonderful world of imagination.

True Colours

A youth theatre cast are preparing to stage the musical Joseph for a drama contest. Ironically, some of the cast members become jealous of the lead actor, who seems to be favoured by the director. When they devise a plan to oust him, the production gets derailed and their chance to compete in the contest is jeopardized.

Saving Grace

Saving Grace is a modern day story inspired by the life of John Newton, writer of Amazing Grace. O’Grady, a new student, is quickly accepted into Newt’s group of friends and becomes co-lead singer of Newt’s band. Hali and her girlfriends want to win the Front Line Music Contest by joining Newt’s band as well. But Newt and his buddies have already entered the all-guy category, wrecking Hali’s plans of winning Group of the Year. Hali gets revenge though when she learns a big secret about O’Grady that would take the guys right out of the running. In this battle of the sexes, O’Grady teaches the teenagers about life, acceptance, and grace.

Inspector Noble and the Figure in Black

It’s a hot night in the old town, and Inspector Sam Noble knows that a quiet night means trouble is brewing.  Sure enough, in twenty-four hours, the famous actress Talia Woodbridge has been robbed and two seemingly unconnected people are attacked by a mysterious figure in black.  The police are stumped.  Who could be behind these crimes?  Was it Big Daddy Johnny Montoya, the famous gangster?  Was it Luke Michaels, the owner of Luke’s Nightclub?  Was it Eduardo, from the grocery store?  Only Inspector Noble and his trusty assistant Griggs can figure out whodunit!

Inspired by films such as Dick Tracy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Casablanca, this play came to life through the urging of the LYTE summer 2009 students, who told Kerry she should “write us a mystery.”

The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg

Gretchen and George and their five aptly-named chickens (Benedict, Poached, Sunnyside Up, Scrambled and Omelet) are near to starvation when a young man named Wendell shows up on their farm, soaked to the skin and bereft of all his possessions other than his sick goose. Generous George offers Wendell some food and dry clothes, but greedy Gretchen insists on taking Wendell’s goose as payment. Gretchen and George are surprised and ecstatic to discover that their new goose lays golden eggs. Gretchen, overwhelmed with her new riches, runs to the market to buy shoes for the couple, but is quickly distracted by shiny necklaces, pretty dresses, and trinkets galore. Gretchen’s desire for pretty things overpowers her husband’s wish for a simple pair of shoes to protect his feet. Will Gretchen learn the value of money and generosity, or will she end up with “egg on her face”?
