Friend of Mine

In 1925, the missionary Amy Thornton is in India, “reforming” temple-dancers by taking their daughters under her care. Fighting to keep her daughter, Kamala tells Amy about her life in the only language she knows: dance. And it turns out the women are more alike than they realized….
